Rain padded quietly along the edge of the river, her paws barely making a sound. She had been unable to sleep, instead deciding to take a walk down to the river to see if it would calm her down. A dazzling array of stars lit up the night sky, and the moon was unusually large and bright.
The gryphine found a lush patch of grass beneath an old oak tree and curled up, resting her head on her paws. It's a beautiful night... She thought to herself, feeling the light breeze ruffle her feathers slightly.
There were too many things on her mind, however, and Rain found her thoughts drifting to the reason she hadn't been able to sleep. She frowned. It was breeding season again already, and she seemed to be the only one in the pack without a mate. Again. Sure there was Alek, but he always acted like a chick and nobody ever took him seriously.
Rain's quiet sigh was carried away by the breeze. Listening to the sound of the stream, the gryphine began to drift off into sleep...
