August Breedings!

Postby silvermoondragon » Sat Aug 07, 2010 5:49 pm

New to this breeding season is the addition of packs. I have yet to add this information to the webpage so I will post it in full here.

~ NEW INFORMATION ~
Pack Information
Being in a pack allows the members to work together in collecting food and raising chicks. This teamwork between members is most noticeable during breeding season as the success rate for breeding raises from the usual 40% rate up to 50%. Any two members in the pack may have a chick, however only one pair in a pack will breed each season in order to provide the best care for the resulting chick. Being raised in a pack usually results in a happier, healthier chick than one raised only by its parents; however, you can still have an exceptional set of parents devoted wholly to their chick.

The pack is lead by the alpha male and female, a highly sought-after and respected position. In any situation, their decision is final and carried out by those lower down in the pack structure.

Packs are dynamic and often will often re-order and change members. In the case that one member of a pack is unhappy with an alpha’s decision or their situation within the pack, there may be a duel between two Gryphines. These duals rarely involve serious injury and are hardly ever fatal, they are more like a ceremonial display of power and strength than an actual battle. Should the challenger win they usually take the position of the loser. Occasionally the loser will be driven from the pack. Should a new pack result, sometimes some of the members in the old pack will also leave and join the new pack, splitting it. Occasionally, new members, either young Gryphines looking for a pack of their own but not wanting to start one of their own, or those who have chosen to leave their previous pack, will join an established pack. In this case, the new members usually start off at the bottom of their new pack. Occasionally, a pack member may increase or decrease rank without a dual if one member does something out of the ordinary, such as rescuing a chick from danger or putting the pack in danger, that accords them more or less respect than their current position.

To form a pack you need to post a new topic in the Pack Registration Forum: http://silvermoondragon.exofire.net/for ... m.php?f=18 with your pack's name as the subject along with the following filled out form:

Pack Name:
Pack Logo:
Alpha Male Name and ID:
Alpha Female Name and ID:
Beta Male Name and ID:
Beta Female Name and ID:
Other Members Names and IDs:

Just like with regular breeding outside a pack, Gryphines in a pack will also create a nest for the mating pair. Regular nest building rules apply.
~ END OF NEW INFORMATION ~

Nest Building
A Gryphine requires a nest to raise a chick, somewhere safe and cozy. To make their nests as safe as possible, the Gryphines build them in the tops of the highest trees in the valley. There are many old, abandoned nests around, still in good shape, leftover after the previous owner gave up raising chicks or just decided to build a new nest. If you don't have, or don't want to use an item in your nest that's fine, you don't have to, there are old nests available. But for those who do, you can check out the item list here: http://silvermoondragon.exofire.net/items.html Nest items can change the chances of successful breedings, or cause mutations and trade items can be traded in for other items.

To build a nest, you must post a new topic in the Sky Nests forum: http://silvermoondragon.exofire.net/for ... m.php?f=13 with your username as the subject along with the following form:

username's Nest

[item image] item name
[item image] item name

If you are not putting anything in your nest, you don't have to make a post for your nest. Once an item is placed in the nest, I will edit your inventory to show that the items are in the nest. Also, later on, items can be removed from a nest, but become unusable after having been in the nest so long so they are effectively used up. However, if an item is left in the nest after a successful breeding, it will continue to have effect, although it will be diminished. If a breeding is unsuccessful, the item in the nest will still have the same effect next breeding season.

If you have already built a nest and would like to add new items to or remove items from the nest, all you have to do is edit your nest post and place next to the item the word new or removed in bold and brackets, see example below

Sky Dancing
Two Gryphines will engage in a fascinating aerial display of twists and turns, loops and dives to determine the others' worth and readiness to raise Gryphine chicks. If a dance is successful, the pair will land in the nest they had put together or find an unoccupied one and sleep for an entire day, and the female will lay her eggs shortly after. If not, the pair will go their separate ways, possibly returning together the next breeding season to try once again. If you do not own a Gryphine or do not have two Gryphine of different genders, you may borrow a Gryphine from another owner as long as you have their permission. Gryphines usually have about a 40% fertility rate.

To start a sky dance, just post a new topic in the Sky Dancing forum: http://silvermoondragon.exofire.net/for ... m.php?f=12 with your username as the subject along with the following filled out form:

Username:
Mother name and ID:
Mother image or URL:
Father name and ID:
Father image or URL:
If a Gryphine does not belong to you, do you have permission?
Have you built a nest or are you using a pre-made one?
Pack(if in one):

If you only own one Gryphine, you can still join in the breeding season, just enter wild as the other Gryphine.

Breedings will be open until August 25, 12:00 Midnight EST. Feel free to edit any of your forms until the end date.
